| Message from the Associate Dean of Science and IT
I congratulate you on your interest in an Information Technology degree. I know from surveys of our graduates that the design and delivery of our degrees are a huge help in securing a good first position to launch your career. Your future employment in Information Technology also seems secure. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that four of the five job categories with the largest percentage expected growth through 2012 in the U.S. will be in Information Technology areas. Outsourcing of jobs to other countries is not a problem for graduates of our programs.
Rensselaer’s Information Technology program is like no other. Our extensive interdisciplinary approach allows you to combine your interest in computing with your interests in other academic areas. We also build on Rensselaer’s traditional strengths in science and engineering by infusing the study of entrepreneurship and the strategic management of technology into the curriculum. Your focused study in IT will help you understand information systems including the fundamentals of computer science, human-computer interaction, business principles and social issues. You will be well prepared for a 21st century career.
This is an exciting time at Rensselaer. You can experience first hand so many of our new initiatives from new buildings and faculty, to new research centers and programs, to new student services and facilities. Now may be the perfect time to study Information Technology at Rensselaer.
Please take some time to browse the pages of the Information Technology Web site. We hope that what you read answers all your questions. If not, you are most welcome to contact us directly. We believe in the importance of getting to know each of our undergraduate and graduate applicants and students personally.
